Publisher: Scholastic Press

Genre: Young Adult Contemporary or Dystopia

Pages: 368 pages

Rating: 3.5 stars

Synopsis:

Hannah Ashton wakes up to silence. The entire city around her is empty, except
for one other person: the reckless, charismatic Leo Sterling. Leo might be the
hottest boy ever (and not just because he’s the only one left), but he’s also too
charming, too selfish, and too devastating for his own good, let alone Hannah’s.
Stuck with only each other against a backdrop of abandoned carnivals and echoing museums, Hannah
and Leo explore a world with no parents, no friends, and no school. Together, they get a chance to start
over and be themselves instead of playing parts others cut out for them. Hannah doesn’t have to be justan overachieving, music-box-perfect ballerina, and Leo can be more than a slacker, 80s-glam-metal-
obsessed guitarist. Leo is a burst of honesty and fun that draws Hannah out, and Hannah’s got Leo thinking about someone other than himself for the first time.
Together, they search for answers amid crushing isolation. But while their empty world may appear
harmless . . . it’s not. Because nothing is quite as it seems, and if Hannah and Leo don’t figure out what’s
going on, they might lose each other—or lose whatever it is that’s building between them—forever.
This epic will-they-won’t-they relationship is a totally fresh and irreverent YA novel that is as much a love
story as it is a story about finding yourself. The book also contains a MAJOR twist that will have readers’
jaws on the floors long after turning the final page.

My Thoughts:

This is a very unique story. It made me think about what I would do myself if there was nobody around.

What I liked was that Hannah and Leo had a unique relationship. I liked the build throughout the story. This book is written in Hannah and Leo’s point of view which I enjoyed as you got the different viewpoints. There is some suspense and romantic tension as well as self-discovery.

I just think that it was missing something. I wish the characters had proper character developments as I felt they lacked in it. It was more like the characters were having fun by themselves until the end of the book. I wanted more of realistic development. I would have liked more questions answered as well.

I recommend this book because it has a great relationship and a great build up. The tension is everything. It is a decent young adult contemporary/dystopia.

Author Bio:

“I wrote YOU & ME AT THE END OF THE WORLD long before there was any hint of this pandemic,
because the image of a girl walking down an empty 12-lane highway
was so fascinating and foreign to me. Too bad we all know what empty
streets look like now,” said Brianna Bourne. “At the beginning, Hannah
and Leo wake up miles away from each other, both convinced they’re
the only ones left in the city. And then they find each other. And
everything changes.”

When BRIANNA BOURNE is not writing, she works as a stage manager
for ballet companies around the world. Originally from Texas, Brianna
grew up in Indonesia and Egypt and now lives in England with her rock
musician husband and their two daughters. You can find out more

My Thoughts:

This book was addicting to read. I read the first one in this series in a day and this one took two days to read (if I didn’t have to work both jobs it would’ve taken one). I will definitely read the next.

Luca and Ama’s relationship was the sweetest and I loved seeing the continuation of this. This book also jumped right into where the first book left off. This book is compared to The Princess Bride, which I have never seen, but after reading this book I want to see it to compare the two. I loved the word building and the politics. The plot and pacing were also what kept me engaged. The only thing that kept me from giving this book 5 stars was that it was not something that I have not seen or read before. I still would highly recommend.

This is a great YA fantasy. It is everything that you would want from a sequel.

Author Bio:

Sarah Henning is a recovering journalist who has worked for the Palm Beach Post, Kansas City Star and Associated Press, among others. While in South Florida, Sarah lived and worked through five hurricanes, which gave her an extreme respect for the ocean. Sarah lives in Lawrence, Kansas, which, despite being extremely far from the beach, happens to be pretty cool.
